Tasting notes
Forest floor, eucalyptus and prune aromas come to the forefront along with violet and cocoa. The full-bodied, elegant palate delivers dried cherry, blood orange, licorice and tobacco set against enveloping, fine-grained tannins. Drink through 2030. KERIN O’KEEFE

The 2015 Vignaferrovia Brunello Riserva is rich with aromas of cherry cola, sweet herbs, sage, and baking spice. Full-bodied, with a core of mid-palate fruit and cloaked with ripe but firm tannins, it offers notes of fig, pine resin, and cocoa. Vignaferrovia is from a single parcel of 4 hectares adjacent to the estate in the southwest of the region and is only produced in the best vintages. Allow 3-5 years in cellar and enjoy 2024-2034. Pian delle Vigne is an Antinori estate they acquired in 1995 and is overseen by winemaker Dora Pacciani.
The 2015 Pian delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vignaferrovia from Antinori is a dark, rich and large-scaled effort. Ripe plum and black cherry fruits are somewhat overwhelmed by notes of mocha, tobacco and buttercream. It’s soft and silky in the mouth, showing sweet inner herbal tones, licorice and dark chocolate. While balanced and structured, this is simply too confectionary, focused on ripeness and wood influence over fruit.
