The 2017 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru is another stellar wine from Thibaud Clerget. Energetic and vibrant in the glass, with striking aromatic presence from the 50% whole clusters, the 2017 is spot-on. Bright floral notes add lift to a core of finely-sculpted red cherry/plum fruit. The 2017 is an impressive wine in the making. (AG)

A notably floral-inflected nose requires aggressive swirling to reveal its aromas of red currant, black cherry, plum and plenty of freshly turned earth character. The racy, intense and decidedly powerful large-scaled flavors possess excellent detail on the finish that firms up very fast. Like the Rugiens this youthfully austere effort is not blessed with outstanding mid-palate density but it's well-balanced and harmonious and should age effortlessly yet be approachable after only 5 to 7 years if desired.
Rich and dense with firm backbone – quite a novelty in 2017! Lots going on here. Real tension and undertow. Needs quite a bit of time. (JR)
The 2017 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru saw a little whole cluster fermentation this year. Offering up aromas of dried flowers, warm spices, citrus rind, dark chocolate and sweet berry fruit, the wine is full-bodied, ample and lavish, with a succulent core of fruit and fine-grained structuring tannins. It's a giving, expressive Clos Vougeot that will drink well in the comparatively near term.
