Dried-herb lift and flinty tones, with ripe blackberry, chalky, firm tannins and a spicy, quite long finish. Has the stuffing to age, though also has a bit of warmth. (TJ)

The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru is the only cru that is 100% whole bunch this year. It comes from a massal selection that produces small berries in loose bunches. It has a floral, pressed-iris- and incense-driven bouquet; hints of truffle come through with aeration. The palate is very well balanced with supple tannins, fine acidity and layers of pure red fruit laced with truffle and light spicy notes. This feels reassuringly long. A very fine Les Suchots that will give 20 years of drinking pleasure.
