The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Pruliers 1er Cru was showing just a little reduction on the nose when I tasted the barrel sample, making it difficult to read. The palate is grippy and quite touchy at the moment, offering blackberry and blueberry fruit and a little chewiness toward the finish, which is backward and surly. There is good potential here, but this is more enigmatic than other vintages I have tasted in the past at this same juncture.

(Sweet Spot Outstanding)<br /> A much earthier and more sauvage-inflected nose is classic Nuits in character with its notably ripe array of various dark berries. Rich, full-bodied and powerful big-bodied flavors coat the palate with dry extract that also does a fine job of buffering the very firm but not hard to rigid tannic spine shaping the impressively complex and lingering finish where the only reproach is a touch of warmth.

A benchmark name in Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Jean Grivot is one of Burgundy’s most respected estates. They have an impressive array of vineyards, including plots in Grand Cru Clos de Vougeot, Echezeaux and Richebourg.
