The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Cailles 1er Cru displays more mineralité on the nose compared to its peers - well-defined, focused, neatly integrated oak, aromatics that seem to unfurl in the glass (an uncommon trait in this vintage). The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, well balanced and quite refined. A judicious touch of cracked black pepper and allspice on the elegant finish gains detail with aeration. Revisited from bottle, the 2018 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Cailles offers up aromas of cherries, plums, cassis and smoked meats that are still quite youthfully fruit-driven at this early stage. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and elegantly muscular, it's a rich but nicely balanced wine that's holding a lot in reserve.
Blackberries, clove and dust. Stony palate entry, with drying, very firm – though quite fine-grained – tannins. Powerful and extracted. Does it have the blue fruit density? Long, perfumed finish though. With time? (TJ)
About the producer
Bouchard Père & Fils is one of Burgundy’s oldest and most established wine producers. Founded in 1731 by Michel Bouchard, it is the largest vineyard owner in the Côte d’Or with 130 hectares of vines.
