The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Damodes 1er Cru has an intriguing bouquet, a hint of blood orange and marmalade coming through with time and neatly stitched with the red fruit. Nicely integrated oak here. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit, blood orange and white pepper. There is a patina of new oak to be subsumed on the finish, but I admire the freshness, no doubt assisted by some acidification. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.

Revisited from bottle, the 2018 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Damodes unwinds in the glass with a youthfully introverted bouquet of dark berry fruit, plums, spices and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, deep and introverted, it's nicely concentrated, with succulent acids and a youthfully chewy finish. Much as it was from barrel, this is one of the shier wines in the cellar.
The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Damodes 1er Cru, which contains 65% whole-bunch fruit, has an attractive, mineral-rich bouquet that seems very well defined. The fleshy, medium-bodied palate offers good density and a lot more fruit intensity than the Clos de Thorey, if not quite delivering the complexity on the finish that you might have expected. But certainly, this is delicious to drink.
About the producer
Based south of Nuits-Saint-Georges in Prémeaux-Prissey, Domaine de la Vougeraie was created in 1999, grouping all of Jean-Claude Boisset’s holdings under one name. The property has a total 40 hectares of vines, with extensive holdings in Vougeot as well as plots in six Grands Crus.
