Scents of rose petals, raspberries, cherries and blood orange, framed by a discreet application of new oak, introduce Fourrier's 2018 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru, a full-bodied, deep and concentrated wine with a voluminous core of lively, even sappy fruit. Long and fine-boned, this is one of Fourrier's most elegant wines this year, as well as the most incipiently profound.

The 2018 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru is very forward and expressive on the nose, offering gingerbread and date-tinged red fruit, and perhaps a little overripe for my taste buds vis-à-vis some of Fourrier’s top-performing premier crus. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, good weight and depth and a nicely detailed black cherry, raspberry and cedar-tinged finish. A pinch of white pepper lingers on the aftertaste. This is an excellent Griotte-Chambertin, although whether it turns out to be the best cuvée from this vineyard this vintage, we will have to wait and see.
About the producer
Domaine Fourrier is located in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin. The estate has been run by Jean-Marie Fourrier since 1994, and has rapidly become one of the village’s most fashionable names, known for producing pure and transparent Pinot Noir.
