From a stony parcel adjacent to Faiveley's Framboisière, the 2017 Mercurey Blanc Clos Rochette is showing very well indeed, wafting from the glass with scents of citrus oil, spring blossom, nutmeg and pastry cream. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with a delicately textural attack, excellent cut and concentration and a chalky finish. It will be well worth seeking out.

The 2017 Mercurey Clos Rochette Blanc, a monopole of Faiveley's, was due to be bottled the following week. It has a pleasant lemon curd and apple blossom bouquet, touches of lime flower emerging with aeration. The palate is clean and fresh, offering orange zest on the entry, a fine bead of acidity and a tang of quince on the finish. Delightful.

Very flinty and original, rather than fruity, for a modestly priced white Burgundy. This is sleek and racy with a cascade of minerals at the crisp finish. Very food-friendly. Drink or hold.

Monopole. Tank sample. More subtle on the nose than the Rully Les Villeranges, grassy lemon freshness and a slight stoniness. There’s clearly some oak here, with a cedar-like flavour and a creamy texture. Drier than the Rully but plenty of fruit sweetness. Likely to be GV . (JH)
