Score 90/100 · Drink 2017-2038, David Schildknecht, Vinous, Jan 2018

Picked from October 17 to 19, this bottling reflects the characteristic ripeness of Juffer-Sonnenuhr as well as relatively early noble rot. Muskmelon, peach and mango are laced with rowan and almond extract on an impressively heady nose. The extremely ripe fruits reconvene on a sumptuously creamy, glycerol-rich palate, with peach kernel piquancy adding welcome counterpoint and pushback to the wine’s prominent sweetness. While lusciously long, this finishes less brightly than the corresponding Juffer and without its mineral savor.

Seriously smoky/fumy nose. Herbal more than fruity, and some SO2 showing for the moment. Sweet and peachy on the palate, so sweet the acidity only just seems enough. (JH)
