2016 1903 Centenary Grenache

The 2016 1903 Centenary Grenache was produced with grapes sourced from their oldest family vineyards in the village of Poboleda. 2016 delivered small and healthy grapes with good ripeness and acidity. In fact, the acidity feels quite concentrated, giving a vibrant sensation on the palate. I think 2016 was better for Garnacha than 2015, and the wine is aromatic and harmonious, with contained ripeness (despite the 15% alcohol). Even if aged in brand new French oak barrels, the wine does not come through as oaky, as the fruit has the intensity and depth to take such extreme élevage. Only 398 bottles were produced in 2016.
