Dark and rich in the glass, the 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Campo del Drago soothes with depths of ripe blackberry and cherry, complemented by sweet herbs and hints of cocoa. This is elegant and velvety—nearly creamy in feel—with a dense wave of mineral-tinged dark red fruits and inner notes of tobacco. It finishes long and staining, with edgy tannins and a slight bitter tinge of clove that slowly tapers off. This is an opulent, seductive and powerful Campo del Drago.

The Campo del Drago vineyard sits at a higher elevation in a beautiful, shallow amphitheater on the road above the Castiglion del Bosco winery. The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Campo del Drago is a darkly saturated and rich wine that offers a soft and contemporary expression of Sangiovese. The tannins are buried deep within the wine's layered textural richness. Only 6,000 bottles were made.
From their highest, southwest-facing vineyard which leads to thick-skinned grapes. This wine spent 18 months in their beautiful barrique cellar. Denser, dry finish offering lots to chew on. Big and bold. (JR)
Maturing mid ruby with bright orange tinges. Savoury nose and a supple palate of sweet fruit with a touch of oak. Still a little muted and with fine powdery tannins. (WS) (JR)
