The 2001 Chardonnay Selezione La Bora di Kante is superb. Rich and full-bodied at the outset, the wine turns more minerally on the mid-palate and finish. Smoke, ash, crushed flowers and cured meats are just some of the notes that develop in the glass as this intriguing and totally unique Chardonnay reveals the full breadth of its stunning personality. The dramatic, sweeping finish lasts forever.

I recently finished all of my 1999 Sauvignon and 2000 Chardonnay Selezioni, and can report that the wines aged exquisitely. There are no 2008 Selezioni, but the straight bottlings are beautiful, and well worth your time. The Vitovksa and Malvasia were aged in used oak, while the Chardonnay and Sauvignon saw a small percentage of new barrels. On a more serious note, I am sure I am joined by legions of admirers in wishing Edi Kante a speedy recovery from a recent bout with illness. Importer: Domaine Select, New York, NY; tel. (212) 279-0799
