Lime, honeydew melon and black currant on the nose put me in mind of a ripe Sauvignon. The polished, expansive, buoyant palate is exuberantly bright and juicy, probably reflecting the high level of relatively water-retentive fine particulate slate in this site. Nips of cress and nettle-like tingling convey invigoration while bittersweet nutty notes lend richness to a superbly sustained finish whose sweetness in no way inhibits clarity or refreshment. “We want our sweet Spätlese to exhibit vinosity and drinkability [Weinigkeit und Trinkbarkeit],” noted Heinz Welter as we tasted this one.
