Good dark red. Deep, musky scents of raspberry, black cherry, briary strawberry, spices and underbrush; shows its 30% whole-cluster element. A step up in sweetness and texture from the Reserve Pinot Noir, with lovely creaminess, sweetness and breadth to its attractive combination of fresh red and darker berry and earthy underbrush flavors. In a sense this is sweeter and more tastable today than the Reserve, but there's also more concentration, savory complexity and tannic spine for aging here, not to mention firm, nicely integrated acidity. Quite long on the aftertaste. Serious Pinot.

The 2015 The Art of Pinot Noir is a barrel selection of the Reserve Pinot Noir. JC Meyer described this as the "most exciting wine that I have made on the estate." It has a gutsy, quite intense bouquet with crushed strawberry, raspberry and cranberry fruit that blossoms in the glass. The palate neatly embraces the 40% whole bunch fruit, very structured and you could say, Morey-like in style. Grippy and more assertive with darker fruit than its Hemel-en-Aarde peers, there is a pleasant piquancy on the finish. Give this 2-3 years in bottle, for it has the substance to last several years.
