Tasting notes
The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru offers red berry fruit laced with minerals, fine definition and seamlessly integrated new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine bead of acidity, very cohesive with exactly the right amount of grip and weight on the finish. This is a well executed Chambolle-Musigny but I noticed that it dries out in the glass. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.

Cask sample. Mid crimson. Seductive red fruits, so inviting and promising on the nose. and yet also has a dusty sophistication. Dry, mildly chewy but with wonderful fruit and freshness within the fine-boned structure. So fragrant without being exactly pretty. Long, too.

Bright, dark red with ruby tones. Very dark, youthfully medicinal aromas of black cherry and licorice. Highly concentrated and densely packed, showing a chewy core of medicinal dark fruits, menthol and salty minerals. As tactile as a solid but also boasts terrific opulence and sweetness. Spreads out to saturate the palate on the long finish, with features substantial dusty but supported tannins. Barthod noted that some of her wines from hillside vines were much tighter the day before my visit and are showing more texture today--this despite the fact that the temperature in her cellar had fallen at the beginning of November with the arrival of much colder weather.
