There are 13,053 bottles of Domaine de la Vougeraie's superb 2017 Vougeot 1er Cru Le Clos Blanc de Vougeot, representing a modest yield for this emblematic monopole. Opening in the glass with a pretty bouquet of fresh green pear, peach, mandarin oil and petrol, framed by a discreet touch of nutty new oak, the wine is medium to full-bodied, racy and precise, with a delicate and elegantly tight-knit core of fruit and a long, precise finish. As readers may know, small percentages of Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc complement Chardonnay in this cuvée.

Tank sample. Very rich and appealing on the nose. Quite tight and restrained at the moment. Refined and introvert but with excellent depth of fruit. (JR)
The 2017 Vougeot Le Clos Blanc de Vougeot 1er Cru, a monopole of the domaine , certainly has a better bouquet than other Vougeraie whites this year, offering more precise, mineral-driven yellow stone fruit mixed with yellow flowers. The palate is well balanced with quite a rich and generous opening, counterbalanced by a fine thread of acidity and an almost effervescent, orange sorbet finish. Very fine.
About the producer
Based south of Nuits-Saint-Georges in Prémeaux-Prissey, Domaine de la Vougeraie was created in 1999, grouping all of Jean-Claude Boisset’s holdings under one name. The property has a total 40 hectares of vines, with extensive holdings in Vougeot as well as plots in six Grands Crus.
