Tasting notes
The 2017 Chablis Vaillons 1er Cru has the finest precision on the nose, flint and wet pavement scents complementing the citrus fruit, all wonderfully focused. The palate is taut on the entry, fresh and crisp, displaying fine acidity, good substance and judicious use of oak. Quite saline on the finish, this gains persistence on the glass. Outstanding. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.

The 2017 Chablis Vaillons 1er Cru is wonderfully vivid and nuanced for the year, and yet also remains expressive and light on its feet. This is a wine built more on understatement than power. Yellow flowers, apricot and mint notes open up, but what stands out the most is the wine's perfume and lift.
Offering up pretty aromas of white flowers, honeysuckle and peach, the 2017 Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons is medium-bodied, tangy and incisive, with a tight-knit core and a mineral finish. This was one of the domaine's earliest harvested plots this year and that translates to one of the racier offerings in the range.
