Mid smudgy ruby. Lightly toasty on the nose but not so much as to overwhelm the savoury dark-red fruit. Pretty oaky on the palate, still too young? The tannins are firm but fine. This is serious and classic Martinborough Pinot. Dry and lingering. Needs patience. (JH)

Like the 2014 Pinot Noir, the 2014 McCrone Vineyard Pinot Noir is a bit leafier in character than the other vintages. It's crisp, linear and tightly wound, with tart cherry fruit balancing the wine's ample weight and richness.

40% whole-bunch pressed. Bright crimson. Quite sumptuous on the nose and then lots of grip on the palate – even drying. Lots of spice and red fruit. Masses of grip. Balsam. (JR)
