2016 Chablis Montmains

The 2016 Chablis Montmains 1er Cru offers the most exotic bouquet of Lilian Duplessis’s 2016s with hints of wild mint, fennel, dried apricot and caramelized pear. I probably prefer the refinement and terroir expression of the Montée de Tonnerre by comparison. The palate is well defined with a slightly honeyed entry, quite rich and dense with veins of tropical fruit, perhaps the one Premier Cru not quite achieving the same level of tension on the finish as its siblings.

The 2016 Chablis 1Er Cru Montmains has a complex bouquet with scents of orange pith, yellow plum and light resinous scents that surface with time. The palate is fresh and tangy on the entry with a touch of marmalade here and a little more sourness that counters the richness of this Montmains and leaves the finish feeling very balanced and focused. This is one to watch out for once in bottle.
