Tasting notes
Usually two years’ maturation. Vines 60–80 years and half stems kept. Since 2001, from his three best vineyards. Very excitingly glamorous on the nose. Really lively and quite different from the rest of the Côte d’Or. So polished, rich and racy. Dryish finish but so chock-full of character. Bone-dry end. So long and throbbing – so full of life. (JR)

The 2016 Marsannay L'Ancestrale offers ripe maraschino, tangerine and tomato vine scents on the nose. There is fine detail here. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, moderate depth with dark fruit seeping up toward the finish, a touch of tobacco and graphite lingering on the aftertaste. Fine, although I prefer the 2015 L'Ancestrale by comparison.
