Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Les Ruchots has plenty of ripe brambly red fruit on the nose, almost Chambolle-like in style. The palate is well balanced with supple tannin, well judged acidity, some salinity towards the grainy, slightly austere finish that gently fans out. It is a subtle Morey-Saint-Denis though one that is deftly made and it will repay a few years in bottle. Tasted September 2016

Deep, bright red-ruby. Musky dark berries, violet, licorice, minerals and sexy brown spices on the nose and in the mouth. Conveys lovely density of texture, with mineral lift giving the middle palate a juicy lightness of touch. Saline, quite dry and reserved today; best right now on the delayed whiplash of a finish. This will rely more on its peppery acidity than on its tannins for spine and longevity. This needs time in the cellar to fill in.
Healthy bright red. Complex aromas of red berries, cherry, smoke, flowers and minerals. Richer and riper than the Sentiers but without that wine's cut today. I find this wine deeper but more closed and classically dry. Best today on the back end, which features substantial but fine tannins and excellent subtle length.
