The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Villages is superb, unfurling in the glass with a youthful bouquet of sweet cassis, wild berries and peony that mingles with subtle hints of candied peel, grilled meat and rich forest floor. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, pure and velvety, structured around a chassis of fine-grained tannins that will demand some bottle age, underpinned by bright acids and concluding with a strikingly fragrant finish. It's a beautiful wine that exemplifies the fragrant, precise style that Bertrand Dugat and his siblings are coaxing from their family's enviable patrimony of old and meticulously farmed vines.

Bright, dark red. Very pure aromas of cherry, minerals, smoke and spices. Juicy but rather lean, showing a fine-grained texture but only modest material. Good honest village wine with a salty finish, but a bit dominated by its acidity in the early going.
The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Village has a crisp, light and yet pure bouquet that is very transparent. You can feel the terroir here and it just sings of Gevrey. The palate is well balanced with bright red cherry and strawberry fruit, a fine bead of acidity and tensile, fine-grain tannin. I admire the energy of this Gevrey and there is a wonderful sensation of stoniness on the finish. This is a brilliant follow-up to the 2015 that punches above its weight.
