Tasting notes
The 2016 Echezeaux Grand Cru, from the lieu-dit of Les Cruots, is reduced from three barrels to one barrel this vintage. I felt that this lacked the energy and joie de vivre of the Les Beaumonts this year. There is decent red berry fruit here, but it just felt static by comparison. The palate is better, with sweet ripe tannin and a fine line of acidity, quite elegant and refined toward the finish. It is a worthy Echézeaux that battled against the frost, and despite the reduction, I think that Maxime has overseen better wines from this parcel in the past.
