The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Phenomena opens to a slightly evolved personality with dried fruit and old spice. The wine tastes dry and polished, thanks to the fine texture you get on the close. It ages in botte grande for a long 51 months before release. I like the power and the depth shown here, but it's hard to imagine how this wine will age 10 years down the line since the fruit is already so mature now.

Maturing mid ruby with bricky rim. Savoury and sweet and concentrated on the nose. Succulent, racy fruit with gorgeous, almost Nebbiolo-like tannins. Powerful yet elegant. (WS)
