Deep and dark in colour but with a lovely and surprisingly delicate nose. Bramble fruit and red apple then minerality and a lifted perfumed note on the deft finish. Very complex and detailed in the way it unfurls. The purity of the fruit is incredible, there’s a weightless feel that makes the concentration and precision all the more impressive. Effortless power through to the long and spicy finish. Very good indeed.

(Lignier is aging this wine--and his grand crus--in 40% new oak): Moderately saturated bright red. Deep, alluring aromas of cherry and crushed stone. A step up in intensity and penetration from the Clos des Ormes, offering juicy, savory flavors of strawberry, cherry, spices and stone. Nicely delineated, juicy premier cru with a firm spine and terrific floral length. Really captures the salty minerality of this well-placed premier cru.
40% new oak – as for a grand cru. Healthy ruby. Round and appealing on the palate with lots of freshness. Not quite enough depth or richness. A bit angular and very drying on the end despite the light body. (JR)

Domaine Georges Lignier has a long history stretching back to the 20th century. Georges – a cousin to Hubert Lignier – set out to establish the finest and most important domaine in Morey-Saint-Denis.
