The first in several limited releases, this expression includes three “ghost“ whiskies from closed distilleries. If that wasn’t exciting enough, at the heart of the blend is a whisky considered the jewel in the crown of owners Diageo’s impressive and extensive list of Scotch whisky distilleries - Brora. According to Johnnie Walker Master Distiller, Jim Beveridge “we have stocks from more than 30 distilleries from every region of Scotland from which to choose the perfect casks to craft each blend. It gives us a richness of character, flavour and age that no other scotch can match”. Blue Label Ghost and Rare is a blend of eight treasured Scotch whiskies. The “ghost“ distilleries include Brora, Cambus and Pittyvaich. The additional five distilleries include Clynelish, Royal Lochnagar, Glenkinchie, Glenlossie and Cameronbridge. The result is an “extraordinary richness found in our pinnacle whisky, a smooth scotch, with the fruity sweetness of pineapple, rich notes of hazelnut and dark chocolate, and a subtle smoky finish and sophisticated subtle sweetness”.

This is much more muscular than the regular, un-haunted Blue Label. It delivers a multitude of flavors—butter toffee, sweet smoke, citrus peel, and dry spices—tantalizingly peeling off layer after layer, building a slow crescendo to a peak of spices and bitter citrus. Mouth drawing with caramel, apple, pear, and sherbet, a mid-palate of zesty orange and baking spices before topping out with bitter peels, grapefruit, smoke, and sour hard candy.
