Score 93/100 · Drink 2023-2033, Erin Larkin, Wine Advocate, Dec 2023

The 2015 Le Sol leads with plum and licorice, raspberry coulis and black olive tapenade, graphite/asphalt/blackberry. In the mouth, the wine is pretty and composed. I like the spool of tannins through the mid-palate, but I wonder if it is even a little light on the fruit department. It's carried by tannin and acid (both balanced and nicely judged within the wine) rather than berry flavored. There's garden mint and star anise through the finish. It will unfold over time. 13.7% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

Jammier fruit than their 2016 on the nose, with a juicy, soft structure. Blueberry and black pepper flavours, with more power but less breadth than their 2016. (RH)

Darkest crimson. Sweet hedgerow berries. Sweet with oak and full of flavour but just a bit flat. Dark and savoury on the palate and super-smooth. Dark and charry on the finish. Firm, fine tannin texture. (JH)

Aged for 17 months in French oak. Made only in the best years, they say, and as a result of several passes by hand harvester through the vineyard. Very naughty heavy bottle. Dark, concentrated purple. Heady, sweet and black peppery on the nose. Rich and round start and then enlivened by freshness and only mild dryness on the finish. This seems much more assertive than the 2015 Bordeaux blends. Appetising and not too sweet. (JR)
