Chewy and dense red with licorice, blackberry and dark-chocolate character. Full body and a tight and firm texture. Shows lovely length, too. Maar 2017, www.jamessuckling.com

Very dark crimson. Bit of sandpaper on the nose. Very rich and sweet. Almost over the top but there is freshness at the end. This is a strong statement! Drying and rather cool on the end. Apr 2017, www.jancisrobinson.com, Drink: 2023-2030

The 2016 La Fleur de Boüard is the best wine I have tasted from Hubert De Boüard's Lalande de Pomerol estate. Pliant, creamy and expansive - with notable depth - the 2016 is super-impressive. Raspberry jam, mocha, exotic spice and French oak all meld together. More importantly, though, the 2016 comes across as less heavy and extracted than in the past, with sweet tannins and terrific balance. Today, it is superb. Tasted two times. Apr 2017, www.vinous.com

The 2016 La Fleur de Bouard has a generous bouquet with ample black cherry and cassis scents, with a touch of oyster shell and cold flint in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with smooth and supple tannin. The tannins grip the mouth though it does not become too overpowering, while there is an attractive tobacco note that complements the dusky black fruit on the finish. A more classically styled Lalande-de-Pomerol from the de Boüards, it has more personality than previously vintages, and it will give 15-20 years of drinking pleasure.
