The other proprietary red wine Favia is known for is the 2013 Proprietary Red Cerro Sur. What a gorgeous effort with layers of concentrated black cherry and blackcurrant fruit and blueberries are present in this full-bodied, opulent and voluptuously textured wine. Like its siblings, the impeccable purity and brilliant craftsmanship integrating tannin and acidity, new oak and alcohol into a high-fashion wine is obvious in this rich, potentially blockbuster and age-worthy wine. This is a sensational effort to drink over the next 25 years.

The 2013 Cerro Sur is deep, powerful and explosive. Black cherry, smoke, mocha and licorice are some of the notes that are fused together in Favia's Cabernet Franc/Cabernet Sauvignon blend. Ample and generous on the palate, the 2013 is going to need at least a few years to settle down, as the tannins are imposing today. Dark red and black-fleshed fruit, iron, smoke and graphite add nuance on the tense, salivating finish. Cerro Sur is 84% Cabernet Franc from Rancho Chimiles and 16% Cabernet Sauvignon from Meteor.

Favia's Cerro Sur is fabulous in 2013. Beautifully sculpted and precise, the 2013 bursts onto the palate with superb energy, tension and class. Cassis, orange peel and white flowers add nuance to a core of dark blue/purplish fruit. The combination of power, density and pure, mineral-driven focus is incredibly compelling. This is a superb vintage for Cerro Sur, Favia's Cabernet Franc/Cabernet Sauvignon blend.

The 2013 Cerro Sur is still quite fresh and just entering its first plateau of maturity. Cedar, tobacco, dried herbs, coffee and menthol lend nuance. This is still dense, and the aromatics are developing, but the 2013 has plenty of life left.
