The 2015 Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes 1er Cru has a potent, broody, slightly oily bouquet with hints of linseed and walnut oil. I appreciate the detail here. The palate is very well defined with just a hint of lime on the entry, though not too strong. The acidity is well judged and the oak neatly integrated, so that the finish remains precise and with just the right amount of salinity. Excellent. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. The 2015 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Combettes is another terrific bottling from this famous domaine, opening in the glass with a classic bouquet of apple, pear, lime, grapefruit pith and almond cream. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, glossy and deep at the core, its great concentration and chewy extract underpinned by succulent acids, its finish pure and precise. In style, Combettes tends to nod to Bâtard-Montrachet, but like this year's Bâtard, this remains beautifully controlled and poised despite its undeniable mid-palate heft.

Bright, light yellow. Less fruit-forward on the nose than the preceding samples, offering scents of subtle saline minerality, menthol and almond paste. Fat, rich and fine-grained on the palate, with ripe peach and pineapple fruit flavors conveying an excellent balance of sweetness and acidity. The firm, rising finish shows terrific pineappley cut and a tannic touch.
