Planted next to their Clos des Cortons. The only place with a red and white grand cru next to each other. Faiveley own four plots, at four different elevations. This wine contains all the different soils, from rocky and clay up to marl. They were picked at different times, with the plot within Clos des Cortons picked first, the plot next to the forest a week later. Pale straw. Both rich and savoury – extremely winning! Sweet palate entry with deep, seductive flavours, and not remotely austere! Beautifully poised and just the merest hint of butterscotch. But not at all sickly. Very long with savoury notes after the sweet start. Some real delicacy but it could only be Corton-Charlemagne. (JR)

Pale, bright yellow. Pungent scents of crushed citrus peel, ginger and metallic minerality; higher-pitched and spicier than the Bâtard. At once ripe, smooth and sweet, offering a compelling combination of pliant texture, sweet stone fruit flavors and tactile stony minerality. The richness and fruit depth of the vintage come through loud and clear but this wine has perfect balancing minerality and ripe harmonious acidity for its sexy sweetness. Finishes very smooth and very long. Will this wine shut down in bottle or will it remain accessible? It certainly has the stuffing for at least mid-term aging.
