Score 96/100 · Drink 2016-2026, Robert Parker, Mar 2016

The 2013 Chardonnay Chloe, which comes from two great vineyard sources, the Ritchie and Lorenzo, was treated similarly in terms of its aging 12 months on its lees, then four months in tank. Good acidity buttresses a relatively full-throttle, big, rich, honeyed wine, with plenty of apple blossom, orange marmalade, and pineapple notes. There is some underlying minerality as well. This should also drink well for at least a decade.

The 2013 Chardonnay Chloe represents a departure from previous years in that it is now and old-vine blend rather than sourced from Ritchie. One of the most tightly-coiled Chardonnays in the range, the 2013 remains quite inward at this stage. White orchard fruits, flower and mint emerge with time, but the Chloe is nowhere near as expressive as the other Chardonnays in the range.

The 2013 Chardonnay Chloe Ritchie-Lorenzo is one of the most expressive wines in this lineup today. Open-knit aromatics meld into a core of apricot jam, almonds, chamomile and white flowers. Succulent and creamy throughout, the 2013 has a real sense of old-vine gravitas and overall intensity. The Chloe was so unexpressive last year. Today, it is stellar.
