Score 88+/100 · Drink 2020-2028, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2016

Bright red with ruby tones. Aromas of black raspberry, leather and underbrush. Very dense and rich but backward; shows virtually none of the sweetness of the Clos de l'Arlot served before it. Crisp, minerally wine with flavors of medicinal black fruits and licorice. Strong, youthfully drying tannins spread out on the taut back end.

Invitingly rich, dark and spicy. Dark and savoury on the palate. Firm, compact but powder-fine tannins. All rather hidden for the future. Slight charry note on the finish. Needs time to be released from its youthful framework. (JH)

(made from 25-year-old vines planted in the bottom part of the Clos des Fôrets Saint-Georges; 50% new oak): Bright, dark red. Deep aromas of black raspberry, black cherry, mocha and coffee. Juicy and crisp, with firm stony minerality giving cut to the subtly sweet black fruit flavors. Finishes with a firm tannin/acid spine and good thrust.

From 25-year-old vines that were planted to replace those that perished in the 1985/1986 frosts, the 2013 Nuits Saint Georges les Petits Plets has a more complex bouquet than the Petit Arlot with stony, mineral scents infusing the dark cherry and raspberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied, more structured than the Petit Arlot, with a firm grip on the slightly austere finish. It needs a little more flesh to develop. Fine.
