Bright medium red. Sexy musky aromas of raspberry, redcurrant and dried flowers. Sweet, pliant and seductive, with terrific vinosity and pungent spice and blood orange elements giving the wine an airy, weightless impression. Christophe Perrot-Minot would not have been able to make a seductive wine like this in his early vintages, when he used much more new oak and did a considerably more extractive vinification.

The 2013 Charmes-Chambertin is another powerful wine, with raw tannins and distinctly savage overtones. Game, smoke, tobacco, menthol and red cherries emerge, but with great reluctance. This towering, structured Charmes will likely repay cellaring handsomely. I have to say, this is a bit of an uncharacteristic showing for a wine that is usually more finessed.

50-year-old vines just opposite Le Chambertin. Dense red cherry fruit but not a massive step up from the village wines really. On the palate there is some real race and spice with sinewy structure. A hint of cough medicine. But it’s ambitious. (JR)

(20% new oak; from a very rocky site): Good medium red. Restrained but complex nose melds dried flowers, smoked meat, iron, earth and menthol. Plump, supple and sweet if a bit youthfully reticent. At least as concentrated as the Griottes but less expressive today. Finishes plummy, savory, subtle and long, with firm tannins and a light herbal quality.
