2014 Latricieres Chambertin

Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Latricières Chambertin Grand Cru has a simple red cherry and crushed strawberry bouquet, a little smudged and missing some focus. The palate is medium-bodied, rather fatigued and showing some hollowness and dilution toward the rather dull finish. I found this Rossignol-Trapet a perplexing wine to read from barrel, and now in bottle I still have doubts about this Latricières from a very fine producer that I admire. Tasted September 2017.

Lightish crimson. A touch more chewy than the premier cru wines. Red fruit and some wild herbs. Dry finesse, pretty light overall but in balance. (JH)

Modestly saturated medium red. Reticent, airy aromas of redcurrant, strawberry, raspberry and spicy oak, plus a touch of stony minerality. A step up in texture and mouthfeel from the premier crus here, offering savory flavors of redcurrant, red cherry, spices and underbrush. Demonstrates good energy and lift but not quite the volume of a grand cru. Tannins are serious but not dry.
