Good dark red. Very dark, liqueur-like nose hints at sandalwood, mulch and minerals. Thick, plush and deep, delivering great depth of texture for the year. But this youthfully chocolatey, remarkably dense--even thick--wine comes across as lower-pitched than some of the Chambolle wines here, in need of long aging to absorb some of its baby fat. Exotic spice and earth tones emerged as the wine opened in the glass. With its plush, broad tannins totally coated by fruit, this amazingly tactile wine is hard to scrape off the palate. It will merit an even higher score if aging brings out more mineral and floral high notes and definition.

(13% alcohol following chaptalization of 0. 8%): Bright ruby-red. Very ripe aromas of purple fruits, lilac, violet, spices and herbs. Spherical and voluminous but classically dry and not yet expressive. An exhilarating suggestion of orange zest gives the wine outstanding verve and an impression of weightlessness. Most impressive today on the incredibly smooth, classy finish, where the tannins are nearly invisible today. Roumier started this wine in one new barrel out of one-and-a-half, then racked it into older barrels in October.
