"The estate's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva brings with it another level of energy, tension and structure relative to the straight Brunello. Here the aromatics are beautifully delineated and nuanced, while the fruit is very nicely layered throughout. Rose petals, crushed rocks, mint and spices wrap around a striking finish laced with balsamic overtones. The 2010 Riserva is shaping up to be another winner from Gianni Brunelli. In this vintage, the Riserva is made almost exclusively from Vigna dell' Olmo, a south to southwest-facing parcel in the Podernovone estate."

The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is an impressive creation with a unique and interesting read of this classic vintage. The wine is bold and bright, with great intensity that accompanies it from start to finish. Dark cherry and blackberry find balanced contrast against layers of spice, cumin and cardamom. I mentioned the intensity but keep in mind that it is very well balanced. The wine never goes over the limit. That same fact is true of the mouthfeel. On the palate, it offers tight textural richness with more fruit flavors and bright acidity. Mar 2016, www.robertparker.com
