The 2012 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru has been maturing gracefully, it would seem. There are plenty of sous-bois scents on the nose, damp moss, fern and wild hedgerow intertwining with red berry fruit. The palate has moved little since I last tasted it, still offering crisp, almost brittle tannins and a fine bead of acidity. A bit austere toward the finish, but the breeding comes through and the sapidity beckons you back for another sip. Drink now and over the next decade. Tasted at La Trompette.

The 2012 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru opens in the glass with notes of sweet berries and cassis, complemented by hints of loamy soil, rose petals and orange peel. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and enveloping, it shares the textural elegance and charm of the 2010 and 2011, but there's more concentration and structure here, with powdery tannins gently asserting themselves on the finish.
Dried rose petals, savory herbs, mint and sweet red fruit are all woven together in the 2012 Latricières-Chambertin. Today, the Latricières comes across as a bit faded and best suited to near-term drinking.
The 2012 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru comes from a parcel purchased by Gilles Duroché in 1989 and is occupied by vines planted in 1969 and the 1950s. This 0.25-hectares is in the north-east corner bordering Chambertin (just by the sign that says “Ici commence le Chambertin” and Rousseau’s vines). It has a distinctly more masculine bouquet than the Charmes-Chambertin with wet granite, briary, undergrowth scents. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, quite structured with fine acidity, gently fanning out with cola-tinged red berry fruit on the masculine finish. This should repay several years in bottle, although I find myself being flattered more by the Charmes-Chambertin at this stage. eRobertParker.com.April, 2015
