The 2013 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru is a vintage that I have encountered a couple of times in bottle. It has a punchy bouquet with, to quote myself, "disarming floral scents" laced with dark berry fruit and a hint of tomato vine and wild heather. The palate is medium-bodied with vivid red fruit, lent nerve by that keen line of acidity and showing a pleasing edginess on the slightly attenuated finish. This is impressive in context of the growing season, though surpassed by the 2012 on this occasion.

The 2013 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru has retained that disarming floral scents, more iris than violets, that combine wonderfully with the dark cherry and blueberry fruit. If I had this blind I would be inclined to guess more Charmes-Chambertin than Mazoyères. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin. It is underpinned by brisk acidity, and very fine focus. Perhaps this has developed more precision towards the finish in recent months. It appears to be a Grand Cru that will reward those with the patience to cellar this for several years. Tasted at Flint Wines’ Taupenot-Merme retrospective.

Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru has a slightly earthy, reticent bouquet at first, though it opens up with delicate dried rose petal scents. Understated but charming. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, quite structured with good density. Masculine in style with just the right amount of austerity towards the finish. This is "très" Mazoyères with a long tail on the finish and a touch of salinity lingering on the aftertaste. It does need time however. Tasted September 2016.

Deep, bright red. Captivating aromas of strawberry, raspberry, cherry liqueur, soy sauce and porcini. At once dense and juicy, conveying outstanding energy and firm underlying minerality to its flavors of red fruits, spices, dried flowers and earth. Still tightly wound but not hard, this strong effort finishes with firm but sweet tannins and terrific rising length.
