The 2013 Chablis 1er Cru Les Montmains has more mineral tones compared to the Beauroy, touches of flint and smoke developing with aeration. The palate is crisp and fresh with green and red apples, just a touch of salinity with a slight reduction on the mineral-driven finish. Enjoy this over the next 5 or 6 years.

Restrained salty citrus nose but not very aromatic. Creamy texture adds weight but it is the fruit weight that's lacking. Dry, chalky finish. (JH)

A wine of total seamlessness and elegance, the 2013 Chablis Montmains (Domaine) impresses for its textural balance, depth and pure texture. Today, the 2013 is incredibly pleasing and beautiful. In 2013, the malos were quite long for this cuvée and finished about a week before this tasting. Still the Montmains (Domaine) shows quite well. The Domaine bottling is a blend of three climats within Montmains; Butteaux, Forêts and Montmains itself, one-third each.

(the only one of these 2013 premier crus that's not a domain bottling; from purchased fruit from Butteaux and Forets): Pale, bright yellow-green. Ripe pear and a touch of white peach on the fruity nose. A juicy, ripe, pliant fruit bomb, with a suggestion of banana but also good mineral cut to give it tension. This is actually more taut than the Beauroy.
