Tasted at the Comte Liger-Belair vertical at the Château de Vosne. The 2012 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Aux Cras comes sprinting out of the blocks with macerated black cherries, blueberry and raspberry fruit interlaced with sous-bois and woodland scents. I appreciate the joie-de-vivre expressed in this wine. The palate is medium-bodied with some new oak to be fully subsumed, but there is impressive substance here with a spicy tang on the long finish. This has no intention of growing up to be a subtle wine - and it is all the better for it. Tasted June 2015.

Bright red. Highly expressive aromas of pungent minerality and game along with a leesy nuance. Silky, seamless and very concentrated but youthfully reduced today, showing a captivating saline minerality and a very fine-grained texture for a Nuits wine. The long, mounting finish dusts the mouth with broad tannins, leaving behind a purple fruit note that gives the wine surprising lift. Hard to judge today but would appear to offer excellent potential.

The 2012 Nuits Saint Georges Les Cras is wonderfully lifted and fragrant. Sweet red berries, savory herbs, orange peel and white flowers waft from the glass in a brilliant, chiseled Burgundy endowed with striking depth and purity. The 2012 is a bit raw, but it's hard not to admire the wine's energy and personality.

On a hill with a metre of clay limestone on limestone and often deep roots – old vines very similar soil to Reignots. Taken into the domaine more recently than Reignots. Very dark crimson. Intense and very very slightly reduced but with lots of vigour and gas. Very energetic. A bit dry on the end at the moment. But the terroir does seem to be imposing itself. Great vigour and energy.
