The 2012 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru has a fragrant bouquet with bright, clean and pure red fruit, with touches of loam and wilted rose petal. It's everything you seek in Pinot with modest maturity. The palate is framed by comparatively light tannins but there is clearly grip in situ, the structure becoming more apparent as it opens in the glass. This is a Clos de la Roche whose virtues creep up on you by stealth. Beautiful.

Violets, licorice, blue/blackish fruit and lavender inform Rousseau's 2012 Clos de La Roche. One of the deeper, more powerful wines in the range, the Clos de la Roche comes across as quite open and expressive. Today, the 2012 looks like more of a medium-term drinker within the context of Rousseau.
No new oak up to now. Big round black cherries on the nose. Real tang and life with some polish and more freshness than in the Chambertin grands crus. Zip! A wine that dances. (JR)
