Dry, massive mineral depth immediate on the palate, green apple fruit – still very tight and immature. Extremely lengthy though, and with fantastic balance and brooding power to last decades yet. (RH)

(bottled three weeks before my visit) Aromas of peach, soft citrus fruits and roasted nuts. Supple and very ripe, with an attractive floral element giving lift to the fruit. More gripping than the Puligny villages Has a thickness but avoids coming off as heavy or alcoholic. Finishes with hints of minerals and white tobacco.

Broad, firm yet waxy in texture – certainly fatter than and quite different from the Pulignys’ sinewy appeal. Already round and polished with even a hint of sweetness – unusual in a Leflaive wine. Fine tannins on the finish and pretty impressively persistent. The Leflaive team said it was closing up but it still seemed pretty expressive to me even if less fine than most of the other wines.
