Tasting notes
Good red-ruby. Tightly wound, very pure aromas of cherry and flowers, with just a suggestion of roasted fruits. Sweet and broad in the mouth, but with a light touch and plenty of verve. The wine's backward flavors are almost medicinal in character. The wine's major tannins call for extending bottle aging. This has more dimension than the Echezeaux but it's not longer.

An exceptional wine, the 2003 Clos Vougeot explodes from the glass with tar, licorice, and black fruits. Deep, powerful, and chunky, it boasts an intense flavor profile of spiced black fruits, asphalt, and ink. This palate-staining behemoth is medium to full-bodied, hugely concentrated, and possesses a finish of interminable length. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2018. Red-ruby. Tight, cool nose features medicinal black cherry, licorice and toasty oak. Then juicy and tightly wound yet at the same time pliant and seamless. This has good depth of flavor and a distinct note of black pepper. Finishes with firm tannic spine. This will need a good six to eight years in bottle to blossom.
