Good deep red. Briary black fruits, chocolate and pepper on the nose; very Bonnes-Mares. Fat, ripe and mouthfilling; large-scaled without being especially sweet. Lively notes of dark berries, minerals and fresh herbs carry through on the firm, youthful finish. Needs seven or eight years of aging.

Gorgeous aromas of spiced red cherries can be found in the nose of the 2001 Bonnes Mares. Medium-bodied, pure, and well-balanced, this silky-textured wine boasts a dark cherry and black raspberry-filled flavor profile. It is well-concentrated, ripe, and expressive. Projected maturity: now-2012. Importer: Kobrand, Inc., New York, NY; tel. (212) 490-9300

Cask sample. Nose very discreet, but no lack of substance. Taffeta underneath. Lots of ripe fruit almost covers tannins. Still a baby. (JR)

Perfumed, expressive and stunningly intense red and black fruit aromas lead to deep, rich, full, remarkably dense flavors supported by plenty of ripe structure. This is backwards and very tightly wound yet manages to deliver plenty of delicious, forward, complex, sappy flavors though my guess is that this will close up shortly after the mise. Extremely promising. Allen Meadows, Burghound, Apr01,2003.
