Tasting notes
The 2009 Bonnes-Mares is cool, implosive and totally reticent. In other words, classic young Bonnes-Mares. Sweet red cherries, flowers and mint sit on a bright, sinewy frame that gradually relaxes just enough to release the wine's potential. There is more than enough verve and structure to support several decades of fine drinking. Today the blend of Dujac's holdings in Bonnes-Mares is approximately equally divided between terres rouges and terres blanches.

My tasting at Dujac was one of the highlights of the two weeks I spent in Burgundy in late November/early December 2011. I tasted through all the 2010s in barrel and 2009s in bottle. The domaine’s 2009s are among the wines of the vintage. Importers: The Sorting Table, Napa, CA; tel. (415) 491-4724; Martin Scott Wines, Little Neck, NY; tel. Good bright red. Cooler but explosive nose offers black cherry, rose petal, dusty brown spices, menthol and sexy oak; conveys a distinct crushed fruit character. Reticent but silky and sweet, with terrific energy and definition to its cherry, mineral and spice flavors. This wonderfully rich, long, firmly tannic wine will require extended aging.
