Score 89/100 · Drink 2016-2025, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Nov 2014

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Meursault 1er Cru les Genevrières 2011 from Vincent Girardin has a much more exotic bouquet with ripe mango and mandarin aromas that are well defined, but seem too eager to please, and too commercial compared to others in the flight. The palate is unapologetically rich and exotic. There is a lot of concentration on the powerful Meursault, but it lacks the elegance and detail of the previous two wines (Genverières from Olivier Leflaive and Antoine Jobard.) This needs time to sort itself out.

Bright yellow. Complex but subdued aromas of orange, nutmeg, pepper and herbs. Juicy and penetrating, showing lovely lemony cut and more minerality than the Charmes. Tightly wound, elegant Genevrieres with a long, pure, very firm finish featuring noteworthy precision and energy.

Pale, bright yellow-green. Ripe peach, lime blossom and a whiff of smoky lees on the inviting nose. Quite ripe and nuanced, with stone fruit flavors lifted by white flowers and almond. Boasts good acidity but seems less tart and more hamonious than the Charmes. The firm-edged finish features excellent chewy persistence.

An attractively fresh, cool and bright nose displays pure mineral reduction, mildly exotic dried yellow fruit, pear and citrus-infused aromas. There is good punch to the gorgeously refined and sophisticated middle weight flavors that ooze with dry extract and plenty of stony character on the impeccably well-balanced finish. This very stylish and classy effort delivers terrific persistence and should make for excellent drinking over the medium-term. Tasted: Jun 11, 2013. Drink: 2018+
