Tasting notes
Smoky nose, but dancingly fresh. The sweetness plays the descant to the lower minor key of blackcurrant bud, but then there is a wave of linden blossom, warm honey and jasmine which is zipped up in crisp acidity. A subtle understated fine-boned Auslese. GV (TC)

The 2012 Ockfener Bockstein Riesling Auslese is very clear and precise on the nose, where white peach aromas are intermixed with vegetal aromas. Sweet, concentrated and piquant on the palate, the candied lime, orange and grapefruit aromas give an intense taste underlined by herbal flavors of eucalyptus and thyme. The finish is nicely pure and salty.
Cask sample. Where the 2010 dazzled with elegance, and the 2011 overwhelmed with opulence, the 2012 seems to take its cue from a harmonious partnership between spice, mint and minerality. This makes it almost more complex than its predecessors, but also requires a little more application on the part of the taster to appreciate the interaction of subtle nuances. What they all share is a delightfully fresh expression of fruit and great vibrancy. Will give great joy for many years to come. (MS)
