82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 6% Syrah. The hand-picked grapes were carefully transported to the winery in 12kg boxes, where they underwent two inspections on a sorting table to remove stalks, tendrils, leaves, and defective berries. Must was fermented in small stainless-steel vats to maximize contact with the lees. Selected yeasts were used in the process, which occurred at temperatures ranging from 24-28°C. Three pumpovers were carried out daily and maceration lasted from 16-28 days, depending on the development of the individual batch. All of the lots were aged for approximately 20 months in new French oak barrels. Suitable for vegetarians and vegans. TA 6.6 g/l, pH 3.49, RS 2.9 g/l. DWWA 2011 Silver Medal Winner. Concentrated and nervy – cocktail of oak and cassis. Doesn’t seem very subtle. (JR)

The 2007 Don Maximiano Founder’s Reserve is composed of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Syrah that spent 20 months in new French oak. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it surrenders an enticing nose of toasty new oak, graphite, scorched earth, cinnamon, clove, violets, blueberry, and blackberry. On the palate, it reveals a suave personality that combines elegance and power. Impeccably balanced, it has the structure to evolve for 4-6 years and should provide pleasure through 2027. Errazuriz has been making impressive strides under the inspired leadership of the soft-spoken Eduardo Chadwick. (includes 6% each of shiraz , petit verdot and cabernet franc) Bright violet. Smoky red- and blackcurrant, cherry compote and a sexy oak component on the expressive nose. Supple and fine-grained, with seductive viscosity to the spicy dark berry and cherry-vanilla flavors. Dense but lively, with excellent finishing clarity and spiciness. Already delicious but I'd hold onto this one for at least another five years.
