Good deep red. Compellingly spicy, aromatic nose combines raspberry, pepper, flowers, mocha and underbrush. The biggest wine yet to this point: round, suave, fine-grained and fat in the middle. Silky and consistent from start to finish, with the result that it's less obviously long than the en Champs, which shows more juicy lift on the end. But this is fine. From cool argilo-calcaire soil.

Cask sample 1: Flattering, but light nose. Some roasted character. Sweet and substantial start, then lots of acid and tannin. Fireworks! Cask sample 2: Round and gentle and very well mannered. This is more like it! Full and much rounder than most 2004s. (JR)
